Materials collected
At the Civic Amenity and Recycling Centre you can recycle the following materials:
Audio tapes
All audio tapes including pre-recorded, blank tapes and home recordings.
Batteries (car and household)
We can only accept complete, undamaged batteries.
Beverage cartons
Paper based drink and liquid food cartons, such as those made by Tetra Pak.
Bicycles
Pedal bicycles.
Books, novels and picture books
Study aids, school books, exercise books, professional journals and manuals to be placed into the paper bins.
Cans
Food and drink cans. Please make sure that you rinse all cans so that they are clean.
Cardboard
Please remove any plastic or polystyrene packaging.
CDs
All CDs including pre-recorded, blank CDs and home recordings. Please place these in the hard plastics container.
Chipboard
Including furniture which is made from chipboard. Please put in the separate container, marked MDF and chipboard, and not in the general wood container
Computer discs
All computer discs including blank discs.
Cooking oil
Please take oil to the site in a sealed container and empty into the appropriate container.
Domestic appliances
Such as cookers and washing machines.
Electrical items
Such as vacuum cleaners, irons, videos, televisions, stereo equipment.
Electronic items
Such as computers and printers.
Energy efficient light bulbs
Energy efficient light bulbs only.
Engine oil and filters
We also accept brake fluid. Please take oil and fluid to the site in a sealed container and empty into the appropriate containers.
Fluorescent tubes
Please remove tubes from any light fittings.
Foil
Including food trays, take away containers and milk bottle tops. Please make sure that all foil has been washed clean.
Fridges and freezers
Please ensure that all contents are removed from your fridge/freezer.
Furniture (domestic)
Furniture must be intact, clean and safe for reuse.
Gas bottles
Undamaged gas bottles only.
Glass
Including green, brown or clear bottles, jars and food containers. Please make sure that you rinse all glass jars and bottles so that they are clean.
Green garden waste
Such as leaves, grass cuttings, hedge clippings. Please remove your green garden waste from plastic bags.
Hard plastics
Such as garden furniture, children's toys, flower pots, drain pipes and CDs.
MDF
Includes furniture made of MDF. Please put in the MDF and chipboard container and not in the general wood container.
Mobile phones
Please remove Sim cards.
Paint
We accept emulsion, gloss, eggshell, undercoats, primer, masonry paint and exterior paints. We do not accept solidified paint, paint over 10 years old, paint that is not in its original container, car paint, wood preservatives, aerosol/spray paints, varnishes and woodstain, paint stripper, thinners and cleaners, specialist and industrial paints.
Paper
Such as newspapers, magazines, junk mail, telephone directories, journals and study aids. Please place shredded paper in the separate bin provided.
Plastic bottles
This includes milk and juice bottles, detergent bottles, fizzy drink bottles and toiletry bottles.
Records
Will be reused.
Rubble
Only small amounts accepted from work that you have done yourself. The site is not licensed to accept commercial waste. If you wish to take a van to the site you will need to make an appointment.We do not accept asbestos, buckets or other building materials.
Scrap metal
No pressurised containers.
Shoes
Please tie pairs of shoes together.
Small waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE)
Such as hairdryers, toasters and blenders. Please ensure that the items are removed from packaging.
Spectacles
Will be reused. No cases thank you.
Sports equipment
In working order and safe for reuse.
Television and computer monitors
In any condition.
Textiles
Such as clothes, blankets and materials. Dry materials and clothes only.
Toner cartridges
Black and coloured ink toner cartridges.
Tools
Non electrical tools. In working order and safe for reuse.
Tyres
Tyres can only be accepted if separated from the metal wheel and rim.
Video tapes
All video tapes including pre-recorded, blank tapes and home recordings.
White goods
Such as dishwashers and washing machines. Please ensure that the items are removed from packaging.
Wood/timber
Please remove all brackets and fittings.
Yellow Pages
All directories should be put into the paper bank.
