Rubbish, waste and recycling
The amount of rubbish we throw away is rising steadily, and at the same time the amount of landfill space where this is sent is falling, meaning that it’s never been more important to reduce, reuse or recycle as much of your waste as possible.
The more landfill space we use, the more we have to pay for - so by cutting down the amount of waste produced in Barnet we will save money as well as help preserve the environment.
So please try to reduce, reuse and recycle as much of your waste as you can using the services listed below.
Calling all Year 9, 10, 11 and sixth form students
We are running a competition to design artwork to be put on the side of our refuse trucks. The winner will have copies of their design put up on 19 refuse trucks in Barnet, which will be seen by thousands of people each day. In addition, the winner and two runners up will recieve an iPod touch each. For more information please visit the design competition page.
Find out what happens to your recycling
99% of the recycling we collect from homes in Barnet gets taken to UK reprocessors for recycling. The reprocessors we use have to provide certain evidence to demonstrate their competence in material reprocessing. We also request details to show full traceability of where the recycling goes, to the end destination. We visit the reprocessors periodically to improve our knowledge of material reprocessing and to check that the material is managed and processed in line with our expectations. For more information about what happens to the recycling you put out, please visit our materials destination page.
