Furniture reuse
There are a number of different schemes in North London which enable good furniture to be reused.
Barnet Furniture Centre
Barnet Furniture Centre is an exciting new furniture reuse project based in Barnet. The project sells second hand and vintage furniture donated by residents of north London. Everything from beds frames to coffee tables to crockery can be found at their warehouse in Friern Banet and is sold at affordable prices.
They collect donations of good quality furniture from residents and then restore and refurbish it. The scheme is particularly aimed at helping families who may be struggling financially due to the economic downturn, including tenants and leaseholders in the 15,000 council properties managed by Barnet Homes, however, anyone is welcome to come and buy the furniture. This scheme will also divert tonnes of furniture away from landfill and ensure items are reused or recycled instead, supporting Barnet Council’s waste prevention efforts.
The centre is also be able to receive donations of fridges, cookers, and other electrical items, such as hi-fis and computers. Staff work with other social enterprises in north London to repair and refurbish these items and keep them in use.
