Furniture reuse
There are a number of different schemes in North London which enable good furniture to be reused. Residents who need to get rid of unwanted furniture, which they cannot deliver themselves to the Civic Amenity and Recycling Centre, can try the following outlets.
Restore Community Projects
Restore Community Projects are a registered charity who collect, recycle and reuse domestic furniture and appliances for the benefit of people in need.
Their key objectives are to provide good quality low cost furniture and appliances, provide training and employment opportunities, in particular to those who are or have been homeless or those with other social needs and to help the environment through the reuse and recycling of appliances.
They collect furniture and appliances from households:
- fridges
- freezers
- electric cookers (if disconnected)
- 3 piece suites
- settees
- sofa beds
- wardrobes
- chest of drawers
- beds (base and mattress)
- chairs
- tables
- bookcases
- wall units
Items need to be in good condition, as they will be going into someone’s home. Beds, settees and armchairs must show that they meet the 1988 fire regulations.
There is a charge of £10 for collections to help cover their costs.
