Training and support for carers
There are many opportunities available to carers to learn new skills to help them in their caring role or to help them cope with some of the difficulties that caring for a friend or family member can bring. In line with the National Carers Strategy, Barnet Carers Training subgroup aim to provide development and support workshops to Barnet carers. The aims of these workshops are to empower carers to:
- access personalised services to support them in their caring role as well as the service user they are caring for
- take choices that enhance their mental and physical well-being
- have a life of their own outside their caring role
The development and planning of the workshops will be led by the Barnet Carers Training subgroup. The workshops will be co-ordinated and processed by the Learning and Development Unit, Adult Social Services and information will be distributed via our partner organisations, networks and local libraries.
Caring with Confidence
The Barnet Carers' Strategy Training subgroup has received funding for carers’ training from Caring with Confidence, a national body which is part of the expert patients programme .The Caring with Confidence training programme will contain seven different modules to choose from, including modules on communicating effectively, and creating a balance between work, your home life, and caring.
These sessions are free for carers.
Managing health
Workshops will be provided for carers who live with a long term health condition themselves, to help them manage their own health and in turn their caring situation better on a day to day basis.
