Shopmobility is a scheme which lends manual wheelchairs, powered wheelchairs and powered scooters to members of the public with limited mobility to shop and to visit leisure and commercial facilities within the town, city or shopping centre.
Who can use it?Shopmobility is for anyone, young or old, whether their disability is temporary or permanent. It is available for those with injuries, long or short-term disabilities – anyone who needs help with mobility. Shopmobility is about the freedom to get around.
You do not need to be registered disabled to use it.
Why is it necessary? With the introduction of shopping malls and pedestrianised areas, it has become increasingly difficult to access all areas of a town or city if you have a mobility impairment. Shopmobility schemes actively encourage inclusion and equality by providing wheelchairs, powerchairs and power scooters for people to use them. With Shopmobility you can continue to access your local centre either independently, or with family and friends.
Shopmobility in BarnetBarnet Council and Brent Cross shopping centre run a ‘Shopmobility’ service which offers easier access for people with mobility problems, by lending them manual or electric wheelchairs, or electric scooters, free of charge. You will need to register with Shopmobility. To register please bring personal identification with you, for example, utility bill or driving Licence showing your name and address.
Shopmobility users are advised to pre-book a day in advance to avoid disappointment.
