The information on this page is for people over 18 who:

- care for someone with any of the conditions above.
How can we help you?
Once we have carried out an assessment of your needs we will work with you to find out what services you need. We can provide services which support you to maintain and/or increase your independence, including:
- Self-directed support
- Personal budgets
- Direct Payments
- Equipment/adaptations to your home
- Home care
- Home meals
- Telecare
You may be required to contribute towards the cost of the services you receive. This will depend on your income, but we will give you advice about this when you contact us. More information can be found in our Fairer Contributions Policy 2011-12: Oct 2011
(PDF: 303KB).
Call our Fairer Contributions Helpline on 020 8359 7017 or email adultsocialservices@barnet.gov.uk if you have questions about contributions towards social care services.
If you pay for your own services, it may be advisable to seek independent financial advice about covering the costs of your care in the future. See our information about paying for long-term care.
Getting involved
There are lots of ways that you can get involved with shaping services:
- Physical and Sensory Impairment Partnership Board established to improve services for people with a physical or sensory impairment. Disabled people, carers and the voluntary sector are members of the Partnership Board together with health and social care staff.
- Learning Disabilities Partnership Board set up to make sure that the lives of people with a learning disability and their carers are improved. People with learning disabilities, carers and the voluntary sector are members of the Partnership Board together with health and social care staff.
- Barnet Disability and Independence Steering Committee (BDISC) is a group of local people with a physical or sensory impairment responsible for user-led services. They offer peer support, advice and information and also arrange social clubs.
- Local Involvement Networks (LINks) is a way to give local people a say in their health and social care services.
Useful publications
Choosing support that is right for you is a big decision, and so Barnet's Care Directory is designed to help you and your family make the best choices to meet your needs. The directory is relevant to any adult in need of care who either receives support from the council or funds their own support.
