Learning Disabilities Partnership Board
The Learning Disabilities Partnership Board was set up to make sure the lives of people with a learning disability and their carers or families are improved. We want to involve and work with people who have a learning disability and their carers, to improve the services they receive in the London Borough of Barnet.
The Board will achieve this by monitoring, developing and promoting opportunities and choices that improve the quality of life of people with a learning disability (aged 18+). Disabled people, carers and the voluntary sector are members of the Partnership Board together with health and Adult Social Care and Health.
'Valuing People Now' - making it happen in Barnet
In January 2009, Valuing People Now was published setting out a three year strategy to improve the lives of people with learning disabilities. Called ‘Making it Happen for Everyone’, Valuing People Now is an opportunity to help get better lives for all people with learning disabilities and their families, including those with complex needs, and from black and minority ethnic communities.
In 2009, we talked to people with learning disabilities and their carers to make sure that we had got the right priorities for Barnet in our work plan for the Learning Disability Partnership Board, which is based on what is said in Valuing People Now. We also launched the 'Small plan to make an even bigger difference'
(PDF: 1.3MB) for 2009-2012, which says what we want to achieve for people with learning disabilities by 2012.
