'Valuing People Now' - making it happen in Barnet
In January 2009, Valuing People Now was published setting out a three year strategy to improve the lives of people with learning disabilities. Called ‘Making it Happen for Everyone’, Valuing People Now is an opportunity to help get better lives for all people with learning disabilities and their families, including those with complex needs, and from black and minority ethnic communities.
The key messages in Valuing People Now are:
- People with learning disabilities should have the same rights and choices as everyone else.
- People with learning disabilities have the right to be treated with dignity and respect.
- People with learning disabilities should have the same chances and responsibilities as everyone else.
- Family carers and families of people with learning disabilities have the right to the same hopes and choices as other families.
Having your say about the 'Making it happen for Everyone' three year plan
The Barnet Learning Disability Partnership Board has the responsibility for making sure that we implement Valuing People Now.
Earlier in the year, we were asking you whether we have got the right priorities for Barnet, and whether there is anything else you thought should be included in our plan for the next three years.
All your comments are being considered by the Learning Disabilities Partnership Board, and the new three year plan will be launched at a Valuing People Now in Barnet Conference organised by the Barnet Learning Disability Partnership Board on 30 September 2009. Look out for your invite to this big event.
This plan will replace the ‘Small Plan to Make a Big Difference’ for the Barnet Learning Disability Partnership Board.
