Registration of food premises
What is Registration?
Registration of all establishments used by food business operators is required by law. “Establishments” includes premises used for the storage, production , sale or distribution of food. Registration enables local authorities to keep an up-to-date list of food premises in their area so they can plan inspections and target advice and enforcement resources. The frequency of inspections will depend on the type of business.
How do I Register?
By completing an Application form for Registration of a Food Business Establishment
(PDF 111KB) and returning it to the local Council For establishments in the Borough of Barnet , please sign the form and return to the address given on the form.
Registration is free and cannot be refused. Establishments must be registered 28 days before they are brought into use. Business operators must notify the Council if there are any major changes to the business or if the establishment closes.
Are there any Exemptions?
The Regulations that require registration change on the 1st January 2006 and we have no guidance on this at present. There appear to be very few exemptions. Official guidance will be posted here when it becomes available.
