Leaving Care
We work with care leavers from the age of 16 until 21, and up until 24 while they are in full time education.
What we do
- support and advise Care Leavers, according to their individual needs, in preparation and planning for becoming successfully independent and responsible citizens
- encourage Care Leavers to develop their independent living skills to enable them to maintain their tenancy when they move into their own accommodation at 18 years
- support Care Leavers in achieving their potential in education, employment or training, and provide appropriate financial support to encourage this
- promote a healthy lifestyle by encouraging Care Leavers to take increasing responsibility for their own health and support attendance at local sports and leisure centres
- encourage Care Leavers to maintain and develop their relationships with their families as well as with their peers.
How we do it
- in partnership with the participation group offer a Wednesday drop-in service from 3pm to 8pm which provides an opportunity both to access specialist advisers and socialise
- value the contribution of young people to the development of the service and work in partnership with a Care Leavers' Participation Group, and also with a Children’s Rights Service
- provide a multi-disciplinary staff team which works with a wide range of agencies in the borough.
