Good Neighbour Schemes
There are four Good Neighbour Schemes in the borough under the umbrella of the Alliance of Good Neighbour Schemes. These schemes offer a range of services such as befriending, small odd jobs, gardening, shopping, collection of prescriptions, transport to clinics and hospitals and home visiting. The schemes cover certain parts of the borough and each scheme may offer slightly different services.
East Finchley Neighbourhood Contact
This Good Neighbour Scheme offers services such as a volunteer visitor scheme, shopping bus, a gardening scheme, benefits advice and help with filling in forms. They also run two lunch clubs.

High Barnet Good Neighbour Scheme
This scheme arranges transport for residents in the High Barnet area for doctors and hospital appointments. They will also pick up prescriptions for people who are housebound and help with shopping in times of crisis. They also arrange a couple of outings every year. The scheme are always looking for new, enthusiastic volunteers.

Mill Hill and Burnt Oak Good Neighbour Scheme
This scheme provides a weekly shopping bus to a local supermarket, runs a lunch clun and provides a befriending serice and advice.

Friend in Need Good Neighbour Scheme
This schemes provides neighbourly support and friendship to vulnerable people in East and New Barnet. They offer befriending, emergency shopping, help with gardening and odd jobs, transport to hospital or other services, form filling and falls prevention advice.
As well as the Good Neighbour Scheme, Friend in Need also run a Helping Hands Service. This is designed to help with domestic tasks such as grocery shopping, banking, pension collection, paying bills and collecting pensions.
The service is available to residents of the London Borough of Barnet who are aged over 65 and meet the eligibility criteria. People over 55 who have a disability may also access this service. There is a small charge for this service.
