Bird Flu
Avian influenza, or bird flu, has now been identified in most of western Europe including the UK.
Barnet Council is working very closely with Barnet Primary Care Trust and following the advice of the Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and the Health Protection Agency (HPA) in drawing up contingency plans and disseminating information to the public.

Bluetongue
Recent tests by DEFRA (Department of Environment Food and Rural Affairs) on animals at a number of farms in the south east have shown positive for the disease Bluetongue.
These cases are the first of the disease in the country although it has been widely detected in animals in northern Europe since 2006.
