Activities for older people
We aim to help older people to have a healthy and active retirement, with many schemes available to get you out and about doing something you enjoy!
Club wellness
GLL, our leisure provider, has recently launched its Club Wellness brand for 55+ offering specific sessions, activities and classes such as aerobics and water work out. Club Wellness members have perks such as:
- inclusive access to swimming during off peak time*
- inclusive access to a range of social activities*
- inclusive access to Fitness Centre during off peak time*
- inclusive access to Group Exercise classes during off peak time*
- inclusive personalised Fitness Induction*
- 6 days advance telephone booking
- access to courses
- members joining pack*
- no 12 month contract on monthly membership

Free swimming
From 1 April 2009, free swimming has been available for residents over 60 in all GLL Leisure Centres in Barnet. This scheme has funding for the next 2 years. Just take proof of age with you to your local leisure centre to join in!

Instructor led walks
There are supervised health walks organised by us and Age Concern Barnet. The walks vary in difficulty, and a brief medical history is taken to ensure the walk is suitable before you take part. These cost £2.50 per walk, which can be paid on the day. The walks take place in locations across the borough including:

- Edgwarebury
- Friary Park
- Hampstead Heath
- Oak Hill Park
- Orange Tree
- Watling Park
- Welsh Harp
- Woodside Park

Say Go! scheme
Keeping fit and active has never been as easy or as fun for people over 55 living in Barnet. The Say Go! programme. which is being run by Age Concern Barnet (external link) with funding from Barnet Council, Sport England (external link) and local voluntary organisations, is putting on an increasing range of classes to suit your interests and ability.
So whether you want to dance, have a go at yoga, tai chi or exercise to music, come along and give it a go. It's a great way to meet new people and to keep fit. All the instructors are fully qualified and experienced. See our Say Go Scheme page for more information.
50+ Exercise and social club
A 50+ activity group meet at Grahame Park Community Centre on Mondays between the hours of 9.45am-1pm.
The group meets for keep fit classes between 9.45-10.45am, which are followed by a more social gathering. Between 11am and 1pm there are speakers from local providers and health professionals, and games sessions, for example.
The activities are led by Open Age (external link), but the group is funded by the Independent Living Group and Genesis Community.
These weekly meetings are held at the Grahame Park Community Centre, The Concourse (Quakers Course), Grahame Park, NW9 5UX.

Contact your local leisure centre to find out about classes or activities they are running for older adults.
