The home will be open to the public for viewing from Saturday 18 to Sunday 26 October

The Householder's Guide to Sustainable Design and Construction (external link) is intended for those buying a new home or planning to extend or redecorate their existing home. It provides essential information on what to consider when choosing construction materials and how to ensure that ongoing running costs and your home's environmental impact are kept to a minimum.

The Architect's Guide to Sustainable Design and Construction (external link) is intended for architects and contractors when undertaking new development. Careful consideration of design and specification at an early stage can provide significant savings compared with an adhoc approach and proposers of development will benefit at the planning stage if they understand the principle of sustainable design and construction prior to commencing the design work.

The vast majority of construction materials that we use come from natural resources such as the clay in bricks, aggregates in concrete, through to slates and timber. The removal, processing and distribution of building materials such as these have an adverse effect on our planet and therefore we all need to consider carefully  how we can reduce our use of them.

Millions of tonnes of construction waste are generated every year. The Reducing, Recycling and Reusing Demolition and Construction Waste Help on Downloading PDFs (PDF: 481KB) document suggests ways in which you and your firm can make a real difference.
