Home modernisation - council properties
What is a decent home?
For your home to meet the Government’s Decent Homes Standard it needs to:
- be in a reasonable state of repair;
- provide a degree of thermal comfort;
- have reasonably modern facilities and services;
- and meet the statutory minimum 'Fitness Standard' for housing.
What is the council doing?
Barnet Homes - who manage and maintain Barnet Council’s housing - is planning improvements to bring all council homes up to the Government's Decent Homes Standard by 2011. To find out more please visit Barnet Homes website.
What can I expect?
You will be asked what improvements you think your home needs and your home will be surveyed to find out exactly what improvements are necessary.
A home may need:
- a new bathroom or kitchen,
- windows or re-wiring.
Some houses will need more work than others to ensure they meet the standard.
