The council's plans for using fixed term tenancies
We are currently consulting on our draft local tenancy strategy. In this we say that most new council tenants will be offered a fixed term tenancy of 5 years with a review at the end to see if they still need a council tenancy. We are holding a stakeholder event and focus groups of citizens panel members and housing applicants. You can also complete an online survey. For more information, click here.
The Housing Strategy 2010-2025
The overarching aim of our Housing Strategy is:
“...providing housing choices that meet the needs and aspirations of Barnet residents.”
The strategy contains the following 5 key objectives that will ensure that Barnet remains a successful London suburb:
- Increasing housing supply, including family sized homes, to improve the range of housing choices and opportunities available to residents
- Improving the condition and sustainability of the existing housing stock
- Promoting mixed communities and maximising opportunities available for those wishing to own their home
- Providing housing related support options that maximise the independence of residents
- Providing excellent value services that exceed residents expectations.
