Street naming and numbering
Street Naming and Numbering is the process by which streets and properties are allocated official addresses or an existing property re-named and/or re-numbered following a development for example where a house is being converted into flats.
Developers and Owners should be aware that naming and numbering is a vital process and postal addresses must be registered in order to avoid confusion in the event of an emergency and in order to receive mail, deliveries and other services.
Types of development that require official naming and/or numbering:
•Naming, renaming, re-numbering or readdressing of property.
•Conversion of a property into two or more flats, creating additional flats.
•Conversion of a garage into a flat.
•Conversion of a house into two houses.
•Unification of flats or houses.
•New development of a house, block of flats, etc.
•New road or access.
•Naming an existing unnamed road or access.
•Clarification or confirmation of an existing address.
How to apply:
An application can be made by downloading the online Application Form
(PDF: 95KB) and referring to the Application Guidance Notes page and returning the completed form to us. The application form can also be completed on the computer (electronically), but must be printed out.

Departmental obligations:
We will send you a letter confirming your address(es). A monthly index of Street Naming and Numbering decisions is sent to various internal departments including Council Tax and Electoral Registration and many other official organisations including Royal Mail, HM Land Registry, the Utility companies and emergency services so they can update their systems.
