Houses in multiple occupancy
The council recognises the contribution made to local housing by private landlords and wants to work with them to ensure that their properties are adequate, safe and meet the relevant legal requirements. Houses occupied by different households are called Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) and are of particular concern because of the higher risks some of them pose to occupiers.
HMO Licensing and HMO Standards
It is a legal requirement for some HMOs to have a licence. So you must know whether or not your house is an HMO and whether or not it needs a licence.
