Grants and assistance
There are a variety of ways that the council can help private landlord:
- home improvement grants
- general advice on private housing
- houses in multiple occupation
- landlord accreditation
Empty property grants
Empty property grants are available if the property has been empty for one year or more and fail to meet the Decent Homes Standard. The current maximum grant is £11,000 per unit of accommodation or 50% of the reasonable cost, whichever is the lesser amount. An applicant can apply for a maximum of six units.
All grants are subject to landlords taking a tenant through the Private Sector Tenancy Scheme.
