Story explorers
Story explorers combines interactive storytelling, craft and play for children aged three to five years old. If you have children under three years old, why not come along to our Rhyme times for babies and non-walkers or our Toddler read and rhyme for toddlers and confident walkers. These sessions take place in term time only.

Our author of the month for January is Shirley Hughes. Shirley was born near Liverpool and studied fashion and dress design at Liverpool Art School. She continued her studies at The Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art, before embarking on a career as an illustrator. Shirley illustrated books for a variety of well-known authors and then started writing herself when her children were young. She has won various prizes including the prestigious Kate Greenaway Medal on two occasions. In 2007 Dogger was voted the public's favourite Greenaway winner of all time. Shirley Hughes was awarded an OBE in 1999 for services to children's literature. Some of our favourite Shirley Hughes books are:
