IT training in libraries
A range of free IT training opportunities are provided in libraries. Many are aimed at beginners.
Please contact the library directly to book these training sessions and courses. All training is free.
IT Taster Sessions
A basic introduction to IT. Covering computers, e-mail and the internet. One-to-one half-hour sessions for people with limited computer knowledge.
- Church End library Thursdays 10am to 12 noon and alternate Wednesdays 6pm to 7pm
- Chipping Barnet library Tuesdays 10am to 12.15pm
- East Barnet library Fridays 2pm to 3pm
- East Finchley library Alternate Fridays 10.30am to 12 noon
- Friern Barnet library Alternate Wednesdays 10am to 11am
- North Finchley library Wednesdays 10am to 12.15pm
- Osidge library Alternate Fridays 10.30am to 12 noon.
IT courses
- Burnt Oak library: BBC Computer Tutor and Webwise
Introduction to keyboard, mouse and computer screen. Introduction to the internet – World-Wide Web, searching and e-mail for people with limited computer knowledge. - Tuesdays: 11am to 12 noon. One hour session each week for four weeks. Four places.
- Edgware library: Introduction to the Internet
World-Wide Web, searching and e-mail (including use of mouse and keyboard) for people with limited computer knowledge.
Choose only one course, either: - Tuesdays: 10am to 11am. One hour session: four - seven places, or
- Thursdays 2pm to 3pm. 1 hour session: four - seven places.

- Childs Hill library: Introduction to Windows, word-processing, Internet and e-mail (for people with limited computer knowledge)
- Alternate Thursdays: 10am to 11am, and 11am to 12 noon. One to two hour session. Two places.
- Golders Green library: Basic introduction to searching on the Internet and word-processing (for people with limited computer knowledge.
- Fridays: 10am to 12 noon. Two hour session per week for up to two weeks. Four places.
- Mill Hill library: Basic introduction to searching on the internet and word-processing (for people with limited computer knowledge)
- Tuesdays: 11am to 12 noon. One hour session per week for up to three weeks. Four places.
- Thursdays: 2pm to 3pm. One hour session per week for up to three weeks. Four places.
- Chipping Barnet library
Introduction to the Internet for complete beginners - Every four weeks - Tuesdays: 2pm to 3pm. Four places.
- Searching the Internet and printing (for people who have attended beginners’ course or have equivalent experience)
- Every four weeks - Tuesdays: 3.30pm to 4.30pm. Four places.
- Edgware library: Web surgery for people wanting help with specific Internet issues (e.g. searching for information, job-hunting, holiday booking) Tuesdays 30 minute slots between 6pm and 7.30pm

To be eligible for these courses you need to be permanently resident in the London Borough of Barnet, be aged 19+, have basic communication and literacy skills and limited or no prior use of computers.

- Tuesdays: 2pm to 4.30pm. Six week course. Six places, or
- Wednesdays: 10am to 12.30pm. Six week course. Six places.
- Grahame Park library Choose only one course, either:
- Tuesdays: 10am to 12.30pm. Six week course. Eight places; or,
- Wednesdays: 10am to 12.30pm. Six week course. Eight places; or,
- Thursdays: 2.30pm to 5pm. Six week course. Eight places.
- Hendon library Choose only one course, either:

How to use the internet course. Internet including: browsers, website addresses, search engines, online forms, viruses, E-mail security and safety, shopping
To be eligible for this course you need to be permanently resident in the London Borough of Barnet, be aged 19+, have basic communication and literacy skills and have mouse and basic keyboard skills. You will need to be able to locate and launch software.
