Events for adults in January

Hallie Rubenhold is a historian and broadcaster and an authority on Eighteenth Century British social history. She has written two works of non-fiction to critical acclaim: The Covent Garden Ladies and Lady Worsley's Whim. Hallie will be talking about her new book Mistress of my Fate, the first book in her new fictional series, and about the art of writing and researching historical fiction.

Events for adults in February

Karrie Fransman is the creator of comic strips My Peculiar World and The Night I Lost My Love. Her first grahpic novel, The House That Groaned, explores the themes of body-image, sexuality and the lonliness of contemporary urban life, and is full of magical realism and farcical symbolism. At a special meeting of the graphic novel reading group, Karrie will talk about her work and the inspirations behind The House That Groaned. Booking is not required but places are limited to 20. Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender History Month

February is Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender  (LGBT) History Month and in addition to displays of stock at Church End and North Finchley libraries during the month, Church End library will also be launching an LGBT themed reading group. The group will meet on Wednesday 7 March from 6.30pm - 7.30pm and on the first Monday of each month thereafter. Everyone is welcome. The first book for discussion will be Green Carnation prize-winning novel The Proof of Love by Catherine Hall, a second novel by an author whose writing has been compared to Daphne du Maurier and Sarah Waters.
