Leading libraries

The Library Strategy, agreed by Cabinet in July 2007, explained that the borough's libraries needed significant investment to bring them up to date and in tune with residents’ needs. As a result £1.24m is being invested in Burnt Oak, Chipping Barnet, Edgware, Golders Green, Hendon and North Finchley libraries, and they will be known as Leading Libraries.

What, where and when

Burnt Oak Library

Burnt Oak Library will be completely refurbished to create a new library and customer service centre for people living in the west of the borough.

  • The customer service centre will enable visitors to access a wide range of services, from housing advice and Council Tax to paying bills and online internet access.
  • The library will have wifi so members can access the internet from anywhere in the building using their own laptop, and self issue machines for a quicker service.
  • Improvements will begin on 1 April , with the library being closed for a period of four to five months.
  • The Mobile Library will be available outside Burnt Oak Library every Saturday between 10am and 12.30pm.
  • Your nearest alternative libraries are:
