London Youth Games 2009
Every year 32 London Boroughs compete in over 30 different sports in Europe’s biggest youth sporting event.
Barnet came 14 out of 33 London Boroughs - Well done to all those who participated, volunteered and of course the coaches and team managers.
London Youth Games 09 Finals weekend took place on Saturday 4 July and Sunday 5 July 09. The Mini Games were held on Thursday 2 July 09. The games ran over six weekends in total and in 11 different venues across London.

Angling
- Unfortunately, Barnet did not have an angling team this year.
Aquathlon
- Sunday 5 July - swim then run event
- Barnet had 10 young people aged from 11 to 15 years taking part in this event
- Barnet came 22nd.

Archery
Saturday 4 July, Crystal Palace, Ledrington Road, SE19 2BQ
- Alice Rudman got the silver medal.
- Barnet came 6th.

Athletics
- Sunday 5 July , Crystal Palace, Ledrington Road, SE19 2BQ
- Girls athletics came 3rd getting bronze medals
- Girls also got gold in the 100m relay, Charlotte Wingfieldgot gold in 300m and silver in the long jump and Simisola Oyesanya got Gold in shot putt
- Boys team had Phil Sadgrove who won silver in shot putt
- Boys unfortunately didn't have a full team but came 25th overall.
Disability Athletics
- Thursday 18 June, Mile End, Rhodeswell road, E14 7TW
- three Gold medals, one silver, one bronze
- Hetty Rudman got two golds, 100m and long jump, Osimo Unoarumhi got silver in long jump and bronze in 100m and Ethan Crowther Hulme got Gold in Javelin
- eight young people took part and Barnet came 16th overall out of 29 of the London Boroughs.
Badminton
- Barnet got through the qualifiers and finished 4th overall

Basketball
Boys Sunday 31 May 2009
- boys played three games against Camden, Ealing and Haringey
- we won against both Camden and Ealing
- we had a good game against Haringey but unfortunately lost
- we were priviledge to have Deron Williams from the NBA to sign autographs and have photos taken with the players
- boys came 14th overall.
Girls Saturday 30 May 2009
- Played three games against Enfield, Brent and Camden
- We won against Brent
- We had a close game against both Enfield and Camden but unfortunately lost by 1 point against Camden who went on to the next round
- Girls came 14th overall.

Boccia
- Boccia took place at Westway Sport Centre, Crowthorne Road, W10 6RP on 4 June 2009
- Both the Mini games(Northway school) and the main games (Oak Lodge school) took part in Boccia. Both schools did very well and had lots of fun.
Canoeing - Kayak Slalom

- Barnet team came 11th out or 24 London Boroughs.

- Saturday 4 July
- This was the first year we had a team - only three riders they did very well coming 26th overall

Fencing
- Sunday 14 June 2009
- Barnet Junior team won bronze medals and the Senior team won silver medals
- Overall we were placed joint winners with Enfield and Newham
- Barnet have therefore got the cup for the next four months

Football
- Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 July at Crystal Palace
- The boys football team came 20th
- The girls football team came 3rd getting bronze medals.
Football MLD (moderate learning disability)
- We took both a girls team and a boys team to Regents Park for the disability football event
- The girls even though we were a player down won there first game against Enfield but unfortunately lost their other games although very close.
- The boys again won their first game but unfortunately lost their other games by only one goal each time
- Barnet came 21st overall.
Gymnastics
- Saturday 13 June and Sunday 14 June 2009
- Barnet had one boy in the artistic event and came 6th
- Barnet had two boys in the floor and vault and came 22nd
- Barnet had two girls in the floor and vault and came 27th.
Hockey
Boys Sunday 21 June 2009
- Boys hockey team won 2 games, lost two and had a draw
- Unfortunately they just missed out going through to the finals
- Boys came 16th overall
Girls Saturday 20 June 2009
- Girls hockey team won 2 games lost won and had a draw in their last game
- The girls went through to the finals on the 4 July and came 10th overall.
Judo
- Took place on Saturday 6 June at Crystal Palace Sport Centre
- We got one gold and one bronze medal and a few 4th places.
- Barnet judo team came 12th overall.

- Took palace on Sunday 7 June 2009 at Crystal Palace Sport Centre
- We had a small team this year however all the young people performed very well.

- the netball team started the first couple of games coming second but soon got in to the games winning the last three games.

- A huge thank you to the five rowers who turned up on the day.
- in the individual races Sachin came first getting a gold medal and Cellia came a very close second place getting the silver
- Overall with only five people instead of 10 we came 17th.
Rugby Union Girls

- Barnets team came 20th overall.
Squash

- Boys team came 5th
- Girls team came 3rd and got the bronze medal.
Sailing

- Barnet came 2nd and got silver in the mixed Pico event
- We came 8th overall out of 23 Boroughs
Swimming
- Saturday 4 July 2009
- In the seniors age group we had two bronze medals from Ryan and Jenny
- Boys came 13th overall
- Girls with only two seniors came 25th.
Disability swimming
- Wednesday 24 June 2009
- This was the first year we took part in the disability swimming for the London Youth Games
- We only took a small team but all of the team did very well.
Table tennis

- Barnet played really well coming 3rd in their group
- Barnet came 13th overall.
Trampolining
- Saturday 20 June 2009
- Barnet trampoline team came 18th overall
Volleyball
- Boys volleyball team won four of their games and lost four of their games so unfortunately did not make it through to the final stage
- Boys came 9th overall
- Girls volleyball team won four of their games and lost three and unfortunately did not make it through to the final stage
