Le Raincy in detail

Little is known about the origins of the link except that it was established with the old Finchley Borough Council in 1962.

Le Raincy became a commune (borough) in 1869 by decree of Napoleon III. It is situated on ancient forest and meadowland bought by Bordier in 1639, who built a castle there. The estate passed to the Duke of Orleans, who became the King of France, Louis Phillipe. In 1852, the state reclaimed the estate and sold it to individuals in lots, which became Le Raincy. It is now a suburb of Paris.

Places of interest include the churches of Notre Dame and Saint Louis. Le Raincy is also twinned with Clusone, in Italy.

Le Raincy is situated 13k to the north east of Paris. It covers an area of 224 hectares and a total population of 13,672.

The Town Council is made up of 33 members, including the Mayor and nine Deputy Mayors, who are elected for a six-year term.
