Highways, roads and pavements
Barnet Council is responsible for the improvement, maintenance and development of the public highway network in the Borough, excluding the M1 which is the responsibility of the Highways Agency and the A1, A41 and A406 which are the responsibility of Transport for London.
In addition to routine highways maintenance which includes surface treatment, we ensure that the public highway is free of obstructions and in a condition which allows the safe passage of people and goods. We look after 672 km of carriageway - help us to keep them in good condition by reporting any potholes or defects in the roads.
In order to ensure the network is safe and to monitor its condition, the council implements a regular programme of safety inspections of the highway. We also provide out-of-hours cover for dealing with emergencies together with a winter maintenance plan for dealing with ice and snow.
Report a problem
If you have a damaged or cracked pavement or spot a pothole report this online using Barnet FixMyStreet. Make a note of the exact location and give as many details about the problem as you can. All damaged paving will be inspected within 2 working days of it being reported.
