Permits, vouchers and suspensions

New Parking Permits: 6 August 2007

Please note that as of 6 August 2007 we will be introducing new parking permits. These permits include several new security features, which we hope will reduce any potential fraudulent misuse.

A list of changes and improvements of the new permits is given below:

  • holographic foil with the London Borough of Barnet logo inset
  • complex background patterns
  • unique permit serial numbers in indelible ink
  • ingrated windscreen holder with perforated edges
  • larger square-shaped permits to allow additional information to appear on the permit
  • additional information on the reverse of the permits to assist the permit holder
  • colour coded permits depending on the location that a permit is valid to assist Parking Attendants identify whether the vehicle is parked in the correct parking place.

Any previously issued permits are still valid and there is no reason to return your old permit for a replacement.

Please note the new permits do not effect the terms and conditions of the permit.

  • Resident permits are issued to residents living within a Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) and allow the holder to park in a designated Resident Permit Holders Only or Permit Holder Only parking place during the controlled hours.
  • Visitor vouchers may be purchased if residents have visitors that wish to park during the controlled hours. Each voucher is valid for one vehicle, for one day.

Each household who purchases both one (or more) resident permit and one (or more) book of ten visitor vouchers will be entitled to five visitor vouchers, free of charge, every 12 months
  • Housing permits can be applied for by residents living in specific council estates within three of the council’s Controlled Parking Zone. They allow the holder to park in a 'Housing Permit Holders Only' parking place during the controlled hours on estate grounds.
  • For business with premises located within a Controlled Parking Zone we issue business permits. They allow the holder to park in a 'Business Permit Holders Only' or 'Permit Holder Only' parking place during the controlled hours.
  • Carers' permits are issued to residents who require essential home visits by a doctor, district nurse or a similar healthcare professional. Residents can pass their carer's permit to such visitors to enable them to park in a 'Resident Permit Holders Only' or 'Permit Holder Only' parking place during the controlled hours.
  • Parking place suspensions prohibit people from parking in a designated parking place. If you need to reserve a parking place or need to park a specific vehicle, for example to carry out a removal, please contact us at least five working days in advance.

We have recently extended the contraventions that they enforce by issue of a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN). One of these contraventions, which may be relevent to some permit holders, includes using a vehicle in a car park or on the street to sell or advertise the sale of goods.
