Animal - Stray dogs
What we have to do by law
We are required under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 to pick up stray dogs reported to us. We will return them to their owner, if identified. If the owner cannot be found we can take them to our nominated kennels and then transfer them to Battersea Dogs Home, and after seven days they will be re-homed (if suitable for re-homing).
Please note: we can only respond to calls where the dog is confined by a member of the public and not to calls of sightings of dogs wandering in streets or open spaces.
We will respond by attending the address within the borough where the dog is being held and attempting to locate the owner by checking for dog tags, microchips and so on.
