Supported housing choices
There may be a time when you find you can no longer manage to look after yourself at home.
Many people are able to get support from friends or relatives, and there is a range of care and support available to help you remain in your own home.
If you are still finding it difficult to manage, you may want to consider other housing options. These could include moving to a sheltered housing scheme, or into extra care housing. After considering these options, if you make the decision to move into a care home you need to begin the process of choosing the right one for you. The pages in this section give more information about these options.
Our directory provides you with details of organisations that give information and advice on housing matters, and includes details of local residential and nursing homes.
There are also many housing schemes in the borough to help people with learning disabilities to live independently. This could be within a shared house where support workers visit all the residents, or the person could have their own flat within a block of supported living flats.
