Citizenship and nationality

Barnet Registration and Nationality Service has offered a nationality checking service for citizenship applications since 2006 and a settlement checking service since 2011.

This service is offered in partnership with the Home Office's UK Border and Immigration Agency and a number of local authorities in England and Wales.

We check that application forms are filled in correctly and ensure that important documents, which need to accompany the application form, are checked, copied and certified so that, in most instances applicants can keep the originals.

In 2011, 2,687 customers come through our nationality checking service and 104 used our settlement checking service. We also held citizenship ceremonies for 2,934 new British citizens at Hendon Town Hall.
