Internship scheme
We, at Barnet Council, are offering internship opportunities for:
- school
- college and
- university leavers.
They can gain experience working in a number of council service areas and a collection of transferable business skills.
Our aim is to provide valuable practical experience that will develop the skills and competencies interns need to develop their future careers. Opportunities are available in various service areas to suit candidates with different levels of experience and from varied fields of study.
The internship programmes will provide interns with personal support from those immediately overseeing their work and a mentor from another area of the council. Our aim is to provide local people with the opportunity to gain the sort of work experience that will help them get into employment.
At the beginning of the internship
In the first week all interns will receive an induction from the service area where they will spend their work placement. This will cover that department’s activities, meeting the team, an allocation of a mentor and procedures on health and safety, emergency and IT use. An induction pack will also be provided containing relevant information and contact numbers.
At the end...
At the end of the programme, the intern will have an overall performance review with their mentor. They will be provided with a reference and statement of achievements/testimonials which will demonstrate the experience and skills acquired.
Internships are available across many areas of the council’s work. They may last up to three months and may be undertaken on a full or part time basis. Internships are unpaid but interns will be paid travel and lunch expenses.
