Barnet Council to hold annual Armed Forces Day parade

Barnet Council will be honouring the military by holding a parade and flag raising to mark Armed Forces Day.

The ceremony on 1st July, will be attended by the Worshipful the Mayor of Barnet, Reuben Thompstone, Deputy Lieutenant Martin Russell, councillors and civic guests, ex-servicemen and women and 13 cadet force units from the Sea, Army and Air cadets in the borough.

The annual ceremony will recognise and pay tribute to both past and current members of the armed forces and their families.

The event will begin at 9:50am with a parade from St Joseph’s School to the Town Hall where the Mayor will raise the flag at 10am. This will be followed by prayers and parading of the RAF Hendon Freedom Sword.

Anyone wishing to attend the ceremony are asked to arrive by 9.30am.

Road closures will be in place from 9:30am.

The Mayor of Barnet, Reuben Thompstone said: “Barnet has always had a very close connection to the armed forces and in particular with the Royal Air Force which celebrates its centenary this year. Armed Forces Day is an opportunity for us to recognise that connection and pay tribute to them.

“It is an honour to recognise our servicemen and women, past and present, for their bravery and dedication to the Forces.”
