Residents from across Barnet are being encouraged to take part in National Walking Month through a number of instructor-led health walks.

The hour long walks, which take place all year round, go through some of Barnet’s well-known beauty spots including Hampstead Heath and Woodside Park.

Walks are open to anyone aged 18 and over, with varying difficulties graded between 1 and 5 for the stamina and fitness needed. Led by qualified instructors, the walks also include additional exercises to improve strength and conditioning.

Dawn Wakeling, Adults and Health Director, said: “Walking is a fantastic form of physical activity that does not require any special skills or equipment, and that can make a real difference to an individual's health when done regularly.

“As well as the health benefits that come with walking, it’s also a great opportunity to explore some of the wonderful scenery that Barnet has to offer.”

Walks cost £2.80 each, and those interested simply need to turn up in comfortable clothing and footwear. Concessions are available for those aged 60 or above or by paying for ten walks in advance.
