Barnet Council has launched a consultation on proposed changes to its prevention and early support services to make sure they are effective and deliver the best possible value for money.

Across the country, adult social care is under growing pressure. The amount of money available for councils to spend has reduced and will continue to reduce over the coming years, our Adults and Safeguarding Committee must make over £15 million savings between 2017 and 2020.  There is also growing demand for adult social care services.

There is now more information about what works in terms of preventing, reducing and delaying the need for adult social care, and we need to make sure that the services it provides are as good as they can be for the money available. Therefore, the council carried out a review of prevention and early support services.

The consultation asks residents for their views on four services which, following the review, the council is proposing to not extend or to meet needs in a different way.

You can find the consultation, along with proposal documents and background information on the affected services at engage.barnet.gov.uk. The consultation will be live from 28 November 2016 until 10 January 2017.

Councillor Sachin Rajput, chairman of the Adults and Safeguarding Committee, said:

“We have already changed adult social care services to make sure they provide better quality, are more effective and deliver the best possible value for money.

“We are improving the way we work with people with disabilities to ensure the support they receive is tailored to their individual needs as well as helping them gain work and be part of their community.  I welcome residents’ views on our consultation."
