Barnet Council has hosted a fair showcasing teaching in the borough for Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs) and people looking to pursue a career in the profession.

People who attended the event, the first to be held in Barnet, on 27 January at The Compton School, North Finchley, were able to find out more about the opportunity to join more than 3,500 teachers already working in Barnet.

Those who came along had the chance to attend a series of talks on the day about the benefits of becoming a teacher in Barnet, advice on how to find that first job and advice on the different routes people can take into teaching.

A range of information stalls were also on offer covering every aspect of teaching in Barnet from its schools, to housing, a chance to chat with Barnet teachers, advice on applying to the NQT Pool, the support on offer to NQTs and the work of the Barnet Partnership for Schools Improvement.

Councillor Reuben Thompstone, Chairman of the Children, Education, Libraries and Safeguarding Committee, said: “I’m delighted that so many people attended the event to find out more about what is a fantastically rewarding career.

“We are incredibly proud of all of our schools and teaching staff and this fair was about showcasing this for people looking to find their first job after qualifying, or those looking to take their first steps into teaching.

“The quality of Barnet’s schools makes it a fantastic place to begin a career and to learn.

“Our schools continue to adapt and grow as the borough changes and we need excellent teachers for our excellent schools."
