Potholes
Barnet Council is the highway authority for the borough. This means we are responsible for maintaining the road network.
We inspects all public highways on a routine basis at intervals appropriate for the class of road and arranges repairs to both footways and carriageways where defects are identified as dangerous or urgent. Where the general condition of a road is poor, it may be referred to the planned maintenance programme for assessment for a future improvement scheme.
If you a query or problem concerning potholes report this online using Barnet's FixMyStreet. Make a note of the exact location and give as many details about the problem as you can.
Pothole Elimination Programme
The Authorities roads have suffered due to the impact of the last severe winter and this has culminated in an unusually high level of pot holes appearing throughout the borough.
This problem has not been isolated to Barnet as all authorities had expressed concerns regarding the impact the severe winter would have on there road networks and budgets.
In recognition of these concerns The Department for Transport (DfT) made an exceptional payment to local authorities with Barnet Council receiving £410,000 in March 2011.
The Council had recognised the need to prioritise a programme to eliminate pot holes throughout the borough and had allocated £400,000 of our responsive maintenance budget for this purpose.
But due to the unusually high volumes it would not have been possible to complete the programme borough wide. This additional sum has enabled the borough wide programme to be completed in time, and pot holes which formed following last winter's severe weather have been eradicated.
The exceptional payment from the DfT has been crucial in allowing the Council to fully implement our borough wide programme.
