Barnet Council supports National Grid in assisting residents affected by gas supply cut
Up to 1000 houses in East Barnet are now affected by the loss of the gas supply to the area.
A broken water main early in Sunday morning flooded gas pipes, interrupting supply.
The National Grid has distributed extra electric heaters and cooking equipment to the households affected. Barnet Council’s emergency planning team have been supporting National Grid and the Red Cross in identifying vulnerable people who may need additional support.
A day centre for adults with disabilities. Rosa Morrison House has been closed for at least the day and the Council will make alternative arrangements on an individual basis after speaking to carers.
St Mary’s School in East Barnet was prepared yesterday as a potential evacuation centre yesterday after a power outage left residents without any heating. Power was restored within two hours and the centre was not used.
