Knowledge sharing leads to changes at the Council
Barnet Council is set to benefit from an exchange of skills and expertise as two of the authority’s most senior officers head off on 12-month secondments. While Nick Walkley, Executive Director of Resources, will be taking up a role at the Department for Communities and Local Government as Head of Strategy for Local Government Efficiency. Sean Powley, Assistant Director for Customer Service will head to BT.
Max Wide of BT will move on secondment to the council taking up the role of Executive Director for Organisational Development.
Over the same period, CLG will be supporting the council in its work to undertake research around adaptive behaviour, as the council moves towards closer two-way engagement with residents aimed at increasing people’s pride in the areas in which they live.
Mr Walkley starts at CLG on 1 September 2008 and will work on a range of CLG’s improvement, transformation and efficiency programmes.
Max Wide joins the council at a time when the future organisation of the authority is the subject of a wide ranging piece of work. As well as minding Nick Walkley’s work, Max will take lead responsibility in developing the council’s workforce strategy to meet the challenge of organisational change.
Commenting on the changes, Leo Boland, Chief Executive of Barnet Council said:
“Everyone at the council knows that we are entering a period of organisational change, looking at options to improve still further on our customer service and performance while continuing to work efficiently, while radically increasing our support for the Council’s community leadership role.
“I am confident that the recruitment of Max Wide will help the organisation respond to these changes.”
