We help to ensure safe and healthy homes for all private residents in Barnet.
If you are a freeholder, leaseholder or private tenant, we can advise, support and, in some cases, take action where the health and safety of your living environment is threatened.
We seek to improve and maintain standards through:
- Advice to tenants, landlords and owners
- Encouraging good management practices
- Advice on and enforcement of national and local housing standards
- Advice on and enforcement of national and local development policies
- Dealing with poor housing conditions
- Licensing of Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) that represent higher risk to the occupants
- Disabled Facilities Grants to help disabled people living in their own homes
- Assisting vulnerable people deal with repairs and adaptations with our ‘Care and Repair’ agency
- Bringing empty properties to back into use using advice, assistance and compulsory purchase where necessary.
