The Barnet Sanctuary Project

What is The Barnet Sanctuary Project?

The project keeps families safe from domestic violence and prevents homelessness. It was launched in 2004 in partnership with the Government and the police force.

The project is an alternative to temporary accommodation for families that have suffered from domestic violence. It covers all tenants, not just those in council or Housing Association accommodation. It is open to any person threatened with homelessness due to domestic violence.

Sanctuary fortifies the homes of those who have suffered domestic abuse so that the victim can feel safe in their own home again. We fortify the property and supply you with a safe room, so that, in the event of an incident you’ll have a room you can go to, and be safe in while the police attend.

“I do feel more secure, especially with the strong door added to the bedroom. I know no-one can try to get into the house without at least waking me up and giving me a chance to call the police. I think this is a great project. Had the work not been carried out on my flat I couldn’t have stayed here. The extra locks and security have made me feel safe again in my home.”
