Carer’s assessments

All carers have the legal right to ask their local authority for an assessment of their needs.  A carers assessment will consider the impact that the care and support you provide is having on your own health and wellbeing and important aspects of the rest of your life.

You may also find our guidance about carers' rights in the Care Act useful.

Young carers

A young carer is a young person who gives regular care and emotional support to a parent, brother, or sister, or someone else in the family.

Support for carers

As a carer, it's important to access the right support which may help you to look after your own health and wellbeing, as well as support you in your caring role.

There's a wide variety of help and support available for carers outlined in the Barnet Carers' Support Offer (Word Doc), which covers areas such as advocacy, training, the Emergency Plan Scheme, and financial support.

Barnet Carers and Young Carers Strategy

Carers are vital to the health and social care economy and we acknowledge the vital role of carers and the support they provide.  We extend our thanks and admiration to all our carers and our Barnet Carers and Young Carers Strategy (PDF) sets out our action plan to continue to improve the health and well-being of all carers living and caring in Barnet.
