Apprenticeships
In partnership with CAPITA and Workwhile, Barnet is sharing part of its apprenticeship levy funds with local businesses.
The fund covers 100% of the apprenticeship training costs.
This enables local businesses to access a diverse and talented workforce across a wide range of sectors such as construction and trades, health and social care, culture and media, and professions like accountancy and law.
We can work with you to take on new apprentices and to develop existing employees, by funding apprenticeship training and assessment. Employers only have to cover the salary.
This is a real opportunity to invest in high-quality training, helping you to grow your business and get the skilled workforce you need to thrive and succeed.
Eligibility
We welcome applications from employers from any sector, though applications are especially welcomed from the voluntary and community sector.
To apply your business must:
- be registered and trading in the London borough of Barnet or an employer supporting a resident of Barnet.
- as a fair pay employer, pay the London Living Wage.

BOOST employer services
Barnet’s skills and employment service (BOOST) offers a range of free services to help you get access to residents looking for work:
- job advertising and opportunities to join recruitment events and job fairs to promote your business
- pre-screening and shortlisting
- reference checking
- in-work support for successful candidates

T-level placements
T levels are 2 year courses for young people aged 16 to 19, that focus on technical and practical skills and include an industry placement.
The industry placement is time spent working in a company for 45 days (can be spread over the 2 years). It’s a chance for young people to develop real work skills and make a meaningful contribution to your organisation.
They're not paid a salary, but employers are encouraged to cover travel and lunch expenses.

Work experience
The Barnet Education and Learning Service (BELS) coordinate work experience placements are for young people aged 14 to 18 in full-time education to spend 5 to 10 days working in a specific role in a company.
Work experience gives students new workplace skills and behaviours and the chance to learn about roles, structures and career opportunities.
Employers can gain many benefits from make a real difference to a young person’s life, identify future staff, engage with the community and contribute to the local economy.
