Working together to end Violence Against Women and Girls
This Domestic Abuse and Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy 2025 - 2029 sets out the partnership objectives which aim to strengthen our collaborative approach to reducing the prevalence of domestic abuse and VAWG through education, shifting attitudes, and robustly responding by holding perpetrators to account.
Barnet Council and partner agencies are committed to creating a borough where everyone, especially women, girls, and children, is able to access appropriate support and live their life freely without experiencing or fearing any form of violence or abuse.
Domestic Abuse (DA) and Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) are serious crimes which are often hidden or under-reported. Ending VAWG is a priority for this Council and at its heart is a partnership approach of shared knowledge together with expertise from survivors, core partners and stakeholders, charity and community groups, businesses and residents.
Working together to tackle DA & VAWG in the diverse borough of Barnet means deepening our understanding of the issues faced by local communities. This strategy is informed by the ongoing engagement with survivors, and we are always thankful for their contribution, including to this important framework for 2025-29.
We continue to fund support services which include:
- Domestic Abuse Support Service
- Perpetrator Behaviour Change Programmes
- Domestic Abuse Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC)
- General Practice (GP) and Primary Care health practitioners domestic abuse training for Identification and Referral to Improve Safety (IRIS) Programme
- Women's Refuges in the borough
