Free Early Education for 2 year olds

Eligible 2 year olds can access up to 15 hours of free early education up to 570 hours a year. These 15 hours can be taken as flexibly as your childcare provider is able to offer. Children become eligible the term after their second birthday.

Apply online for 2 year olds

Once you have a applied and your child is eligible, you can start looking for a childcare provider, please take your eligibility letter to your chosen provider and they will do the rest for you.

When can my child access a free place?

Eligible 2 year olds can access a free place the term after their second birthday.

A child born between: Is eligible from:
1 January - 31 March 1 April - Summer Term
1 April - 31 August 1 September - Autumn Term
1 September - 31 December 1 January  - Spring Term

 

Free Early Education for 3 and 4 year olds

All 3 and 4 year olds are eligible for up to 15 hours of free early education
up to 570 hours a year. These 15 hours can be taken as flexibly as your childcare provider is able to offer. Children become eligible the term after their third birthday.

Additional funding support for 3 and 4 year olds

In addition to the 15 hours of free childcare, your 3 or 4 year old  may also be entitled to:

  • 30 Hours free childcare
    Some 3 and 4 year olds* can claim up to 30 hours of free early education. If you are eligible you will receive a voucher code. Once you have this you can take it to your childcare provider to access a place.
  • Early Years Pupil Premium (EYPP)*
    Your childcare provider may be able to claim additional funding to support your child’s learning and development. Ask your childcare provider for more details.
  • Disability Access Funding (DAF)
    If your child is in receipt of Disability Living Allowance your childcare provider will be able to claim additional funding to support your child’s learning and development. Ask your childcare provider for more details.

 

Tax Free Childcare

If you're a working parent with children under 12 (or under 17 for disabled children), you can open an online account with HMRC to help pay for registered childcare*. You can use it with the 15 hours and 30 hours schemes.
