Barnet’s SEND Strategy
We are proud to publish Barnet’s SEND Strategy. This document outlines the priorities and objectives across the partnership that will improve outcomes for children and young adults with SEND. This document has been co-produced with families and the actions are monitored via the monthly SEND Development Group meetings.
Chalgrove Primary School Consultation
Following the 4 week statutory consultation period, this notice is to confirm the proposal for a new provision for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities to open on the site of Chalgrove primary School. The full notice can be found here.
You can read the full proposal here.
Special Provision Fund Allocation
Over the course of the last 12 months, we have been working with our families, schools and stakeholders to plan for the next phase of provision for pupils with SEND. Our ambition continues to be to provide as many local places as possible for pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans as we are committed to increasing parental choice and improving outcomes for our most vulnerable children and young adults. This document shows how we have done this and how to plan to develop our local offer further.
The special provision plan shows local groups how Barnet is investing in capital projects to get good outcomes for pupils with education, health and care (EHC) plans for their special educational need or disability

You Said, We Did

Local Offer has a lot of useful information and has improved a lot; however it is difficult to navigate and hard to find the information you are looking for.
The Local Offer (LO) steering group (with parent membership)implemented a consultation & developed summary document that was published. Based on this feedback we have now reviewed our existing site and have commissioned an organisation to develop a new LO (in a coproduced way) that utilises an external microsite (to address the concerns parents and children have raised).New Local Offer site launched in June 2018.
We would value more training and workshops for parents
Local Offer Events Page lists all key SEND training we are offering and the quantity is increasing.
Education, Health & Social Care are all offering SEND events for parents (coproduced and co-designed with parents).
• Education SEND Event – Sep 2017
Timeframes for completing statutory assessments (EHCPs) has improved, however there are still examples when the quality could be better
|Barnet now implement a moderation exercise for EHCPs; using a standardised process to ensure the quality of plans being finalised are at the required and appropriate standard. The quality of EHCPs is now part our quality assurance measures.|
|Parents / carers would value more coproduction opportunities and examples.||
We are advocating an approach where coproduction is embedded in all we do. There is a Barnet Coproduction ‘work-stream’ that meets regularly.
Our new ‘Local Offer’ (launch June 2018) is being coproduced with parents / carers and children and young people.
We are actively coproducing (e.g. co-designing/ co-delivering) our parent SEND events / training with the Barnet Parent carer Forum (see events listed above).
A recent example (March 2018) where Barnet services are providing messages for our parent / carer community that have been produced with our community (designed by you / for you):
Barnet EP Team – Who are Barnet EP Team
The wheelchair service for children and young people is very poor – there are long waiting times, no clear complaints process, families are not kept up to date or informed and families do not have confidence in the staff.Reported at the Health Conference on the 1 February 2018
Barnet CCG asked parents to provide details of the difficulties they had experienced.
Barnet CCG met with AJM Healthcare (wheelchair provider) as a matter of urgency, the following actions have been completed:
