Youth Assembly

  • The Youth Assembly is a group of young people who live, work or study in Barnet and come together to debate local issues that are important to them
  • Key issues are taken by YA Members directly to elected Councillors who discuss how the Council can best address these issues
  • With over 50 signed-up members this year, Barnet's Youth Assembly is one of the largest groups of its kind in the country

Apply to join the 2017-18 cohort

Youth Assembly meetings: what happens

You'll have the chance to raise and debate local issues that are important to you at Hendon Town Hall, as well as hear from influential guest speakers.

As a member you will submit proposals (called motions) to debate at the meeting on an issue you feel passionately about. Have a look at past motions.

Click here to download the motions template.

If the motion has enough support from the rest of the Youth Assembly it will be put to Councillors at a meeting of the Children, Education, Libraries and Safeguarding Committee (CELS). Learn more about what CELS does.

Past Youth Assembly members

But don’t take our word for it. What do current Youth Assembly members think?:

  • "That the youth can make a difference."
  • "The diversity and variety of people who are a part of the Youth Assembly."
  • "It helps improve confidence in public speaking and is a great chance to make a positive change."
