Freedom of Information request (FOI)
The Freedom of Information Act 2000 gives a general right of access to all types of "recorded" information held by the council, subject to a number of exemptions that are specified in the Act. Everyone has the right to make a request for information under the Act. Requests must be in writing and you must provide your name and an address for us to contact you. An email address is fine.
The Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) 2004 give a public right of access to environmental information and work in a similar way to Freedom of Information.
This form covers both types of request. The Information Commissioner’s Office can give you more information on making requests, what you are entitled to and any exemptions.
Before making a request, it is recommended that you check the list of published council information first.
The Open Barnet data portal is an important tool in pushing forward Barnet’s Transparency Agenda, bringing together all our published datasets and other information of interest on one searchable database for anyone, anywhere to access.
The publication scheme covers information routinely published by the council. It is a list of classes, groups or types of information, within which information is available.
We also publish responses to all previous FOI requests.
