Mischief Makers, Summer Reading Challenge 2018

┬ęDC Thomson Ltd (2018)

The mischief starts on Saturday 14th July!

Barnet libraries are calling for children aged 4 - 11 to sign up to read at least six books this summer for the Mischief Makers, Summer Reading Challenge 2018.

Children can read any six books over the summer as long as they are borrowed from a library in Barnet. The books can be fiction, non-fiction or any eBook or audiobook borrowed from our digital collection.

If they go on to read an extra 2 books or more, they receive a 'super-reader' voucher for a free DVD loan in our extension challenge.

As you may have guessed, the Mischief Makers theme is inspired by the much-loved children's title Beano, which celebrates its 80th anniversary this year!

Help Dennis, Gnasher and friends explore Beanotown to find the mysterious buried treasure - with tons of fun along the way!

It’s totally free to take part in the Summer Reading Challenge. Once registered, each child is given a collector poster to keep a record of their Summer Reading Challenge journey. As they read their books, the children will receive special stickers to add to the Beanotown map on their poster. Once they have collected all the stickers they will be able to find the buried treasure and become top mischief makers!

The challenge ends on Saturday 8 September (but we do give some grace to latecomers!)

How to sign up for Mischief Makers

There are 3 different ways to register:

  • Sign up at the counter at any Barnet library during staffed hours. Please check our opening hours information for more details.

  • Sign up during self-service hours. Registration forms and instructions will be left at the counter during self-service hours. Complete the form, put it in the envelope provided and post it in the red box. Return to the library during staffed hours to pick up your collector poster and reading rewards.

  • Sign up online at anytime. Your collector poster will be sent to you by post.

Whichever way you register for the challenge, you still need to collect the reading rewards during staffed hours from the library where you are registered. We love to hear about the books you have read!
