  • Oxford Dictionary of National Biography: You will find information about individuals and groups of people who have shaped the history of the British Isles over 2,500 years
  • Who's Who and Who Was Who: Search the latest edition of Who's Who and more than 100,000 records of people from Who Was Who (people who have died)

Dictionaries

  • Oxford Dictionaries Online: You can use the modern English Dictionary and Thesaurus plus sections on writing skills and crosswords
  • Oxford English Dictionary: Search the respected dictionary of the English language to find out the origin and use of words

Family history

  • Ancestry: You can use this popular family history website to search UK family history records. Access to this resource is only available from a Barnet library or when using our wifi
  • World War One Centenary Archive: Explore 100 official government documents relating to WW1 including Sir Douglas Haig Somme Despatch dated 29/12/1916. Newspapers

  • Times Digital Archive: You can search the full text of the Times newspaper from 1785 to 1985
  • UK Newsstand: National and regional news, combining the most popular British newspaper titles in one database
  • Zinio: Read a choice of popular magazines, from Good Housekeeping to Match of the Day.
