Barnet Council is a glutton for cleaner streets

  • Street cleaning services

Keeping streets in spick and span condition remains a priority for Barnet Council, as it rolled out a suite of new environmentally friendly, mechanised street cleansing machines this week.

As part of the innovative approach to street cleaning, seven bright orange glutton machines will be located in Barnet’s town centres, with an additional machine targeting hotspot areas across Barnet.

The machines which are completely electric-powered, are able to vacuum up all types of waste and will be operating in town centres from 11am-7pm daily.

Councillor Dean Cohen, Chairman of Barnet Council’s Environment Committee, said: “Our residents expect our streets to be cleansed and maintained to excellent standards and this new equipment will help us achieve this.

“The orange glutton machines will make it quicker for our teams to clean large areas, with the street vacuums able to clear smaller pieces of litter much better. The machines are also electric, environmentally friendly and can operate quietly without causing noise pollution.”

The new machinery is part of the council’s £600,000 investment in new-generation equipment, which also included new mechanical sweepers, to improve efficiency and maintain roads more vigorously all year-round.
